i towed a Nomad 1661 trailer with a similar vehicle a few times .
Ranger with the 4.0 V6 , 3.73 limited slip , Heavy Duty Cooling , and auto trans .
it was rated to tow 5000 pounds , just as your Explorer .
the nomad 1661 is only 7 feet wide not 8 as most trailers are
the nomad 1661 has a sloping front end for easier towing .
i only tried that a few times .
after that i used my 2500 chevy with a 7400 vortec .
the trailer sales guys will tell you that you can tow right up to the limit .
you can , but you will not be happy .
that nomad 1661 was a great little trailer and can be had for very little money now if you can find one in good condition .
skyline product also sold as an Aljo or Skyline 1661 .
