broke window removal

Hi have a broken window as you can see it is like a normal house window(slides up/dn) and can't see a way to get just the bottom(broke) piece out to get it fixed. looks like i have to take out the whole window but i still see no way to get the bottom pane out of the frame-doesn't look like it comes apart. any ideas?
it's in a 2006 nomad 326(3260)

Ouch, is that weed-eater damage? Do those two screws in the center of the window do anything? I would say that Francesca Knowles is probably correct and there are some springs holding the window centered side to side.

no, it was done earlier this year-had to go in for something and like i'm used to doing, left the keys in the lock(which i won't anymore) and a good gust of wind slammed the door/key into the glass. as for the springs on the side-the screen is like that but the window is not. upon closer looking, the center brace looks like it comes out(2 screws in center) and removing the upper rubber seal you remove the upper glass, then slide the lower glass up and out. then off to the local paint/glass shop. he does good, fast work at a reasonable price(not the 1st piece of glass to be broken around here :) ) figured since the bottom corners are not square it would probably be a lot easier for him to take in the bottom frame than me measuring and trying to figure out the radius of the corners.
    thanks all

That does look like it's not a tempered window and that seems just plain foolish on the manufacturers part. I would second asking for tempered glass when it gets replaced. If you can get the slider out, take it to a residential glass and shower door place and let them figure out how to take it apart and replace the glass. I had to do that for a window in my trailer and it unfortunately wasn't cheap. ($250) but it's done and I'm happy now.

To remove (and re-seal) RV window, surf entire video at: - click here -

Recommend removing window yourself, then take window assembly to glass place. The will easily replace new glass. If replacing new glass, ask about cost difference of using tinted glass (instead of clear glass). If wondering, my TT's bedroom windows use tinted windows. One of its best upgrades. Especially if one likes sleeping in....

  • Home glass shop is the best way but they will most likely want you to remove the entire window frame from the trailer.

They will be able to check and match the color of the glass cut new glass to size and install it into the moveable part of the frame.

I will however suggest that it would be a wise move to have them TEMPER the replacement glass. From the looks of the large sharp shards the manufacture did not temper the glass and that is a very dangerous thing..

Tempering the glass is a chemical and heat treatment which will strengthen the glass AND at the same time will make it much safer if the glass gets broken in the future. Tempering puts a specific amount of surface tension on the glass which when broke will make the glass shatter into millions of less sharp and harmful pieces.

Tempering must be done after the glass has been cut and fit.

Most home glass shops will have to send this out to have done for a small additional fee but it is well worth it since the glass will be stronger and resist breakage better.

Don't bother with auto glass shops unless they do custom glass for chopped hot rods..
  • Call your nearest glass shop. Either take the trailer to them or have someone come out and replace it. Not that much to have them do it.
  • Many such up/down sliders are held in place by tension springs on each side.

With the window slightly raised, try pushing that section to one side- should expose the opposite edge, at which point you lift that side out.

Once you get it out, the means of taking it apart should be apparent, although I advise taking it as-is to a glass place- that way THEY are responsible for properly sizing replacement glass.
