- beemerphile1ExplorerOur replacement came from Sears for $99 but the failure was due to a pole that jumped out and bit the original unit.
- dadmomhExplorerYou might also check in on Hybrid Explorer, which is also Pop Up Explorer. There is a small number on there with A-liners. SpiritDeer is a stockpile of information and lives in the BWCA. Nice folks that will help in any way they can.
- PatternExplorerThanks for the feedback and tips! Appreciated.
- rexlionExplorerFrom posts I've read in the Chalet-Aliner Yahoo group, yes the A/C death is pretty common.
- xteacherExplorerJoin the Facebook group for A Frame Campers. Great group of folks and several knowledgeable people on there who are geniuses at fixing what ails any of the A frames. If it's a 5k a/c, there's one at Sears that fits a typical Aliner - don't remember the model number, but one of the tech guys on FB will know.A Frame FB Group
- ryanw821ExplorerI don't know about aliner specifically, but I have seen other smaller campers running "window unit" air conditioners all boxed up in a cabinet, which is NOT following the AC manufacturers guidelines on installation of the unit.
Window AC's need to have ventilation intakes on the sides of the unit, and all camper manufacturers I have seen using window ACs have them sealed up tight in a cabinet or wall cavity. This is a recipe for overheating and burning out the unit. They SHOULD be using "wall AC" units, which are designed to vent in and out through the rear of the unit, not sides of the unit.
If I were you, I would look for a similar sized "wall unit" not "window unit", it should give you a lot longer service life.
EDIT: It wasn't a HUGE factor, but the mis-use of window ACs was part of the reason we chose the camper we did (it has a proper RV Roof AC unit).
