Bully Dog or other brand diesel engine monitor

I recently bought my first diesel truck. A 2013 GMC 3500 ......I am wondering if I need to know the information that a monitor will give me. Isn't the gages on the truck enough information to safely...

As I see it todays trucks tell you a lot more than my 10 year old one and I am happy with the gages in it. I have no extras. JMHO.
