No. The truck is built to tow without any problems. Much better than the earlier models of the duramax.
I find that I do not reach as high of EGT temps with the 2011 like I did with my 2005. Tranny runs allot cooler too.
I just like to watch some of the engine/tranny parameters.
1. There is no longer a transmission temperature gauge - read on DIC now. I can monitor it on the Edge.
2. The engine temp gauge is off by about 25 to 30 degrees (reads high)
3. I like monitoring the DPF soot loading and see when it goes into regen (red R light is lit on the monitor and you can see the soot loading reduce)
4. It can read and clear diagnostic codes
5. Many more parameters are available to be checked.
I use an Edge Insight CTS - works great. I have it set to monitor 5 parameters - you can monitor up to 8. It is just a monitor - not a tuner (the power up and down arrows do not have a function). Only purchased a monitor because I don't want to impact the engine warranty.
On my 2005 Duramax I had a pyro installed in the passenger exhaust. I had pillar mount gauges- boost and EGT. With the 2011 I can monitor the post turbo temp (200 to 300 degrees less than pre-turbo). There are 4 temp monitors on the exhaust - post turbo, pre- SCR. post- SCR and post- DFP. the post-DPF can get to 1100 degrees when in regen. So - don't stand too close to the exhaust when the DFP is in re-gen.
