Bully Dog or other brand diesel engine monitor

I recently bought my first diesel truck. A 2013 GMC 3500 ......I am wondering if I need to know the information that a monitor will give me. Isn't the gages on the truck enough information to safely...

If you do not have a smartphone, you can pick up a brand new one on through a pre-paid cell service provided for under $50 at times and never use voice minutes.
