I think using the term RIP OFF is a little over the top..
As others have stated, most, if not all tuners do the same thing.
Here's a Link to their FAQ page. It clearly states
If you had your vehicle’s ECU/TCU/FICM replaced while tuned, there is no charge to unlock your device for as long as you have an invoice showing the vehicle has been flashed by a vehicle manufacturer dealer.
It does say if tuners are discontinued, it is $150 to reset, so that could be the issue.
So, not sure how the conversation went, but I would politely call back again, and point to their own page and provide them a copy of your invoice, showing replacement of the ECU.
