A little history...
Well, I have to say that prior to buying property in northern Michigan as a get away / hunting property, I had never considered a pop up TC but one trip with my Lance convinced me I had to get a different unit.
Getting into and out of our remote property with a hard side TC was an exercise in cutting limbs and very careful driving in 4 wheel low range and even then I could not get all the way back to the property because the access is a seasonal 2 track complete with a creek crossing. No way was the Lance getting in, maybe peeling off the air conditioner and the Maxx air vents, it might have made it, would have been ugly though so we camped on adjoining state land and walked in. My intent was to get the camper on our land and stay there, not walk in so, I bought the Palomino SS.
It's low enough (with the top down) that I can drive in on the 2 track and light enough (even loaded up with water, propane all our 'stuff' and the inverter genny, I can cross that creek (in 4wd) and not feel like I might sink to China. It fits down the seasonal road just fine, and overhead clearance is fine as well.
I notice a big difference on the road with the pop up compared to the hardside, I don't even notice it's back there unless I look in the mirror or glance at the rear view camera. No wind issues at all, no passing big truck issues and my mileage jumped up quite a bit too.
Downside is, it's really a 3 season camper and my Lance was appointed much better. No microwave, no private potty, no air conditioning and a PITA getting into and out of the bunk.
Don't need ac in the woods anyway. It has a bathroom (for the wife), I use the woods...lol
If it wasn't for the property, I'd still have the Lance, but I don't and now I have a bunk issue. It's fixable though.
It's really a nice, basic camper that serves us just fine. Kind of like sleeping in a tent with a mattress and the coffee pot nearby and not having to light a fire in the morning with damp wood to get that first cup of java.
It's actually very comfortable with everything opened up, screens all the way around, very airy unlike the Lance with 2 side windows and the overhead hatch.
No one else around to bother us, just deer, raccoons, squirrels and an ocassional bear.
Only downside is the bunk. Needs a better ingress and egress.
