Bunk reinforcement and need for 2nd AC on 2400bh

Hello All,

We are purchasing a 2400bh. I'm concerned about the weight on the bunks, is there a way to reinforce it? If Jayco can do it......surely there's a way? We have grown children and a grandchild. Secondly I'm very concerned about the one AC keeping up in the Texas heat. Can a 2nd AC be installed in the vent in the bedroom? Thanks for the advice.
  • The vent in an RV bathroom is needed to expel moisture during and after a shower. At least open the vent but I also use the fan. I would not block a bathroom vent.
  • Idk about the bun beds. But there is a simple solution there somewhere if they truly won’t hold a person up.
Biggest issues with installing another AC is getting power to it properly and not the redneck way. And having enough knowledge to install something that needs to be well sealed to the roof.
  • Grit dog

please describe the redneck methods used in your area and then also describe the proper way of getting power to the area and sealing the roof.
  • Add wood to walls going from the floor to the bottom of the bunk.
Add ledgers under bunk if they can be screwed into studs.
If you don’t have a 50 amp service, you will have to figure out another method of getting electricity to the 2nd unit. A 30 amp service is going to be taxed to run both at once.
I added a line to hook up to the 20 amp outlet at the pedestal so I could run the microwave and the A/C simultaneously. You could do the same for the 2nd unit.
  • For us the way we reinforced the bunks was to double the number of screws in the ledger and using 5/8 plywood to replace the 1/2 OSB from the factory.

As far as the AC is concerned I'd wait to do anything, a 15k AC in a single room trailer of that size is probably fine, we had a similar sized unit and camped at temps up to 115 without issue.

Btw the bathroom wouldn't work, besides the need for a vent for moisture control the vaulted ceiling would keep the unit from sitting properly.
