Ford is in the wrong here. Badly. This is a poor practice that is best avoided. Hopefully they'll fix it for '16, or at least '17.
There's really not much to argue. These trucks would be safer if the additions made to the crewcab were made to the other versions. But they weren't. "Marginal" isn't good enough when they can do better using a known solution. Ford has the capability to fix the issue, and I expect they will.
This is correct. Ford will make changes now, but it's like the guy who gets caught cheating on his wife and suddenly decides to act different. It was OK before getting caught.
I understand that people can come up with examples of different manufacturers taking short cuts. None are acceptable, regardless of if it is GM, Ford, FCA, or anyone else. But, it is a poor excuse to brush it aside and just claim that "everyone is doing it."
I saw the color-coded photos in Automotive News of the "blockers" around the front wheels on the crew cab models. I would be ashamed if I approved that design only on the crew cabs but left it off on the other bodystyles. The same thing goes for GM and Ram, if they did something like that.
I have owned a lot of Fords over the years, I own one now, and hopefully I will own more in the future. I have also owned a bunch of GM vehicles. I even own a Toyota as well. But, this bothers me, regardless of what name is on the tail gate.
But, I'll just knock it off now, because for some here it seems that the brand is all that matters, and it should be defended at any cost.
