"I have a 1160 that I have carried on both my 03 Duramax and now I have it on a 2012 6.0. Both trucks are stock and 3500 DRW. I didn't have any problem with either truck except the 03 was over the max gvw by about 800 lbs. It handles fine on the 2012 without any modifications, I get between 9 and 10 Mpg loaded, real nice truck."
800 lbs over on an '03 doesn't seem too bad. I don't know why Boatycall has lead-lined walls in his.
