Buying new vs used

I am about to buy a Forest River Wolf Pup. I have been looking at an excellent condition 2015 16 FQ with, as far as I can tell, nothing wrong with it. He wants $8900 and won't come down on the price. It does come with anti-sway bars and a questionable battery. Alternately, I can get a brand new 2016 CJ model for $11,454. I'm not sure if that includes battery or anti sway bars. So, I'm essentially looking at $3000 for a warranty. Is it worth it? I do prefer the layout on the new model, but I'm not sure it's worth 3 grand.

Thanks.

  • I bought a used TT that was three years old and never looked back. I did more wear and tear in six months than the previous owner. 23,000 mile later it is still going strong.

I would be really upset if I had to take a new unit back for repairs which seems to be standard practice.

Yeah. They should both commit fraud. It's apparent where your ethics lie. To the OP - don't buy used from spike99, he'll cheat you to make a buck.
  • I would buy used. Check it out thoroughly before buying. Make sure EVERYTHING works as it should. Save your money and time that it takes when you have to take the new one in to get everything fixed

NO warranty. Instead, take saved money and put into kids (or grand kids) future education account.

Thus... Save / save - which matters in the long run.

BTW: Learn own maintenance / inspections (from roof, appliances to brakes to wheel bearing greasing tasks) and save even more dollars.

    Works for me...
  • Go used if it has been well cared for. Most of the RV factory warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. It also can be a long wait to get your dealer to even do the warranty work.
Again, do yourself a favor and buy the used one, if it is in good shape. Then you do not have to put up with dealer excuses, and endless warranty battles.
  • And used tires, worn brakes etc etc...for my money I would go for NEW...good luck
  • Sounds like a good deal granted they were no prior major issues and all systems have demonstrated proper operation. If your are handy with tools, most towable RVs are fairly easy to work on. We've had our current rig over 9 years and it has never been back to the dealer, don't want to wait and don't trust their work over my own. Get on the roof and check/touch-up seams if you decide to go that route. If I have anything to say about it, our next RV will be a gently used creampuff with just a year or two of road time. Good luck with either choice!!!

It is for me. Think about it. Buy used, you are buying their mattress, and everything that comes with it, plus any scratches, dents tears, breaks that they have done. Buy new. At least all that will be yours, and you will know what you are getting.

Also. Any dealer worth anything. Will include a weight distribution hitch in the deal, and a battery, plus propane. AND they should set up the WDH, and show you around the TT and how everything works.
So for me. It is worth the little extra.
