Interesting Larry. So what I assumed and what others assumed here was wrong, that it would heat the fluid up considerably.
It's good to know that it isn't going to affect my cold weather driving much if at all.
FWIW I towed my trailer again this weekend up to about 10,000 ft. , the Yukon did great but about an hour in I got more transmission whining again. My temps maxed at about 230-235 I think....or close to that, most of the time they were in the 200-225 range.
Yea, it's a little surprising how little most really appreciate how some of this stuff really works and myths once promulgated are hard to correct or even to attempt to get those believing in them to consider they might be just that myths. This one sorta falls in the same category as slapping on a larger tranny pan, those "finned" pans, or adding an extra cooler believing those will be beneficial in managing tranny temps when in fact depending they can actual do the opposite in certain circumstances.
One comment on your temps. While not outlandish they are IMO a little high and might be an indication that you are really stressing your drivetrain especially your tranny. Most folks that monitor their temp normally only see a max pan temp of around 200 to maybe 205 under really stressful conditions, but of course that all depends on where that temp is measured.
