Larry, maybe I'm not saying this right so I will try again.
Anytime you have two fluids that get together and have two different temperatures they will equalize, temperature wise. Hot will always go to cold. Always. It's the 2nd law of thermodynamics. It's a law, not a suggestion. 2nd law of thermodynamics.
"If" the tranny fluid if hotter then the engine coolant the ATF will flow to the cooler engine coolant cooling the ATF off and warming the EC.
"If" the EC is hotter than the ATF the EC will flow to the cooler ATF Cooling the EC off and warming the ATF.
The "if" is what I believe Mark was talking about.
