Larry, maybe I'm not saying this right so I will try again.
Anytime you have two fluids that get together and have two different temperatures they will equalize, temperature wise. Hot will always go to cold. Always. It's the 2nd law of thermodynamics. It's a law, not a suggestion. 2nd law of thermodynamics.
"If" the tranny fluid if hotter then the engine coolant the ATF will flow to the cooler engine coolant cooling the ATF off and warming the EC.
"If" the EC is hotter than the ATF the EC will flow to the cooler ATF Cooling the EC off and warming the ATF.
The "if" is what I believe Mark was talking about.
While in theory you might be right, but we are not talking about theories and for trannies which we are talking about Mark clearly state with no IF ands or BUTS:
After extensive testing on many different vehicles in temperatures as cold as -40°F I never found a condition where the in tank cooler warmed the trans fluid at all.
That's pretty clear to me and sorry you might not understand it:h
I tried to explain why you will never see the ATF cooler than the coolant at the in tank radiator location at least from my belief.
