Bypass radiator/tranny cooler combo?

First family car that had HD cooling was a 1968 Dodge Monaco V8-440. One component of the A38 Police Package in a more luxurious sedan than the 14.0 second flat Dodge Police Pursuit.
The auxiliary ATF cooler was downstream from the radiator. All hard lines.
I copied this on numerous vehicles. Last ones I used B&M Racing pieces that would bypass cold ATF until it warmed sufficiently.
Placement in flow of engine fan important.
Down from that unit is where I would install a filter.
