went there with 9th chain on WD hitch. Got some bounce on certain roads.
Coming home I went up a link and put on #10 chain. Just some tension on chains. Not a heck of a lot but U assume its something.
Ride was nicer coming home the same route. Nice flat feeling when hitting bumps..
Moral? IDK.. a 420 TW is light for that truck I assume...
You definitely have light tongue weight but I believe 500# is worth using a WD hitch.
My guess is the porpoising you're experiencing is due to the factory receiver. The OEM receiver was a total piece of junk that GM used for over 8 years. Almost all of the WD transfer to the frame is made through the bumper mounting brackets, not directly through the receiver itself. I used to have an '04 Chevy 2500HD and even that receiver was weak and caused porpoising. I swapped that receiver for a traditional cross-tube style receiver that transferred WD torque directly to the frame. ALL of my towing issues went away when I made the switch.
My buddy has a 2000 Chevy 2500. He never believed me that the OEM receiver was that weak. A few years ago he backed into a curb while his WD hitch was installed and bent the receiver. He replaced the receiver with a more traditional one and was immediately amazed at the difference. It was such an improvement that he was sorry he hadn't made the switch sooner.e
You should look at changing your receiver to something like this Curt Class V XD and you'll see a huge difference in towing performance.
