Since this is related to Sr-89, lake Tahoe and a truck camper, my question to the OP is what's on Sr-89 (river rd) on the west side of lake Tahoe?
Looking at the map, it appears to be littered with Ski Camps and small villages along the west side.
Is that a main road to access some USFS service roads away from civilization or are there some nice state campgrounds in the area?
I've never been there, to be honest, and the only things I know about Lake Tahoe are from my folks who lived in Southern California for a while during the 70s.
California as a whole, other than a brief tip-toe into Cresent City at the end of my Coastal soujourn trip down the 101 through Oregon back in 2008/2009, I haven't set foot in California since September of 2007.
Visiting got too expensive and the drivers scare the bejeezus out of me, only place I've seen worse was in Chicago and I haven't even made it further south than San Francisco/Sacramento.
Joe that road goes along the ridgeline, view it in satellite view on google maps and youe will see tons of smale lakes and streams with FS roads heading to them. Good fishing and camping
