Funny, I had to do a double-take when I saw eyecom's post. I thought this was a done deal with the wife's preference for a 5'er. BUT, now that you elaborate on your travel style I'd have to say it really does describe why a TC is good flexible and utilitarian. They just WORK well.
No place to relax? If I am not crashed out on the bed, or at the computer/TV in the dinette, I'm outside. Around the fire, hiking, soaking in the sun, tromping around on snowshoes, exploring on the dirt bike, or in the Jeep or.....
Bring a comfortable fold up chair! Yeah, I wouldn't mind a rear-slide TC with a couch, but it's not that important to me.
We've spent over 100 nights in ours this year, and hope to someday full-time in it. No reservations about the livability of a TC. Hell, BKA has been living in his for 5 years now. If you want to head down a forest service road that might just not have a turnaround....you gonna do it with a 5'er or just pull on down the road? See a great pull-out scenic view with a few cars parked in it.....and have to drive on by with the 5'er? Even pulling a short Jeep is an infringement on the flexibility of the TC only, but a good trade-off perhaps. You can always disconnect it to park etc.
Sounds like you guys are TC'ers at heart. Hope it works out whichever way it goes.
