To the best of my knowledge there is no dispersed camping allowed in the NF here in the north east , forest roads are closed to vehicular traffic with few exceptions . Too close to high population areas , too many abusers . They use to be open to anyone who could get through them.
Not to split hairs, but the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont allows disbursed camping and if you stop at the Ranger Station in Rochester, they'll direct you to a few places.
