Camping At Walmart

Thanks everyone, for your replies.

My tow vehicle is a 2005 Chevy Suburban. I am sure there is 12V DC to the 7 pin connector, ignition on or not. I checked it with a meter. That being said, I think for piece of mind, I will simply unplug. As others have stated, I do a walk around whenever I stop.

GM tow vehicles may or may not have a fuse installed which powers up the trailer plug, but why worry about it? Simply unplug. I do a turn signal and brake check every morning before leaving which will show if the trailer is unplugged. I do not want to discharge my starting battery.

Why not just unplug to be safe. Hopefully, you are doing a walk-around prior to hitting the road...I do, even if we just stopped to eat--- you will see the disconnected plug when checking to make sure your hitch, chains, etc... are still properly attached and ready for travel.

As mentioned. It all depends on which TV you have. If Ford. No need to unplug. GM? Maybe you should.

Like others have said, test the connector to see if it still supplies power with the truck off. But even if does then you still probably leave the 7 pin connect for the overnight stay. After running the furnace all night in pretty cold temperatures, I've just barely have drained my trailer battery to empty by morning. We always carry the generator with us, so we always have a backup if we need it.

Walmarts can be hit or miss. Sometimes you can get a quiet one, sometimes you get one that busy until 2 am. Some of them are in shopping centers which keeps the parking lot really busy. My favorite is Lowe's. They're closed at 9 pm (8 pm on Sundays), but the parking lot is mostly empty of customers by 8 pm. Their parking lots are well lit, but the intensity never seems to be as high as other lots so it doesn't feel like the sun is shining through your shades lol. We can spend a night there without a single peep from outside.

I like Cracker Barrel .. better... they close at 10 pm.. and open at 6 am.

park in the back.. less traffic noise..

they even offer a free map of all stores and if they allow overnight stays.

Unplug from tow vehicle .. sleep better.
