You are correct in that it will be a regional thing as to IF studs are really better, best, bestest! For the majority of the driving I do west of the cascades, granted weekly trips to snoqualmie, stevens or crystal mtn ski areas, A trip to eastern Washington or Schweitzer..........I personally prefered a decent siped more open tread AT to traction tire on the TV, siped hwy to aggressive hwy tire on the trailer. The few times I might have issues with black ice where I traveled. not worth it with handling issues on dry pavement with the studs.
I might change my mind if I was over that way more.......then again.....
