I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm interested in towing during what's left of this winter (if there is any winter left in Idaho and Oregon) and this statement is counterintuitive to me. Why is the WDH your enemy? If your rig depends on one, like mine does, going without it would mean no steering input on a slick road.
I'm not going up into the mountains. I live at 6,000 feet where we get plenty of snow and I want to get out to the coast for some fishing. I want to be prepared if I do get into a snowstorm, but if I do I will be on I-84 or on I-15 until I get close to home on the way back. Nothing will be steep or curvy. I have chains for the TV and TT, and have driven in snow most of my adult life.
