Camping near Wright/Pat AFB?

Possibly going to Ohio for a few days next month and we would like to go to the Wright/Pat Museum for a few days. Any recommendations on where to stay for a few nights? We do not meet the criteria for staying at the Wright/Pat campground!
Thanx
  • Trip report:
There will be no trip. Were to leave Sunday for Albany, Cleveland on Monday and Dayton on Tuesday. But, with the government shutdown, Wright/Pat museum is closed and that was the main reason for our trip. Oh well! That's life!
  • Thanx for the recommendations. Will make a choice and report back when we go!
  • Highly recommend Caesars Creek State Park camp ground, its about 30 minutes away from the Museum and camping is near the lake.

  • If you are military (active, reserves, retired etc) or staying with someone who is military here is a link to the AFB campground. This is a great site for anyone who travels the country and can access military bases...all based are broken down by state and there are usually very honest reviews on the facilities.

  • While you are there you might also visit the Wright Bros bicycle shop and Hoffman Field (First flight away from Kill Devil Hills)

there is a park callerd "Clarion Park" if I remember correctly.

If you are equipped to boondock (or WallyDock if you prefer) there is a WM at Wright Patterson AFB back gate and another near where the by pass joins I-75 on the south side. I have stayed in both.

I haven't tried the commercial campgrounds in the area.

Have fun.. WP museum took as 4 days.

  • I haven't camped there, but I can thoroughly recommend the museum. Definitely worth making the effort to visit.
