Camping Time Shares

So we are headed out for a free weekend of camping, no site fees that is...

That and the promise of a gift after sitting through a 90 minute presentation on buying a time share for camping. I've done these many times on other vacations to get discounts, cash or gifts, but don't buy anything. Anyone actually buy one of these???

  • A night or two for a "free campsite" is not worth it to me..and then you have to deal with months of follow-up sales pressure calls.

Beside, if I know I'm absolutely not interested or am not going to buy, it bothers me in some sense to take advantage of the guys who are working hard trying to make a living.
  • I did once about 30 years ago, got screwed, won't buy another. Five years after purchase the place filed bankruptcy and screwed everyone, buyers, lenders, construction companies, everyone involved. I did get some money back from a class action lawsuit. The company was called Thousand Adventures, no connection to Thousand Trails as far as i know.
  • I have a zone membership at Thousand Trails. It is like $450 per year. The benefit there is that they have 5-6 parks in my area (3 at the coast) and I can stay there an unlimited number of nights for no additional fee and I am gauranteed a reservation.

I literally call 24 hours in advance and tell them I am coming. The campgroudns are nice and most have an indoor pool/hot tub.

That said...This is about the far end of what I would pay...and if it was for only a single park I wouldnt do it.
  • Not a chance I'd buy one. Secondly, I haven't found one in my area that is worth staying at.
