There is another way to look at this job though. As income augmentation. In other words, for someone like me who is already receiving an income from another source, which would not be compromised by taking this job, then this could work.
Others, early retired, pensioners, could use this also for additional income, albeit not at a rate one would want to exist entirely on, but additional income nevertheless.
100% in agreement brother; my personal hope is to turn 55 (I'm 41 now) and have enough saved up to kiss the corporate world goodbye and do something like this without caring too much about the net income.
I've entertained thoughts of setting myself up (get a CDL, etc) to do a run on the weekends here & there- as you said, a supplemental thing- but the cost of insurance, permits, etc may make even that prohibitive.
If insurance & #2 diesel were less expensive it'd be much, much more feasible.
