Campsite Lighted Sign Post

Latest project, after seeing a few various iterations of of campsite signs and holders/stands I wanted to take a stab at our own version. The design, like all great designs, began of course on a napkin. I have seen several of these PVC lampposts that utilize a standard lamppost style light. I wanted to go a different route, and have something with a unique look and rustic class. That is how we try to approach all of camping related items.

Anyway, it's design is simple and of course it's just pvc and mdf. Primer rattle can and then hammered bronze for the base, gloss black for the post. The light began as a pendant light kit from the big orange store. Wired that into a dusk/dawn photo eye so it is plug it and forget it. Then wired to a 15' extension cord from there. The globe is just an old mason jar with the lid drilled to accept the pendant light socket. The bulb (40W) is one of those cool old fashioned filament style bulbs.

The sign I can not take credit for, that is from Wood Signs of Gatlinburg. Man they do nice work.

The holes in the base are for 12 inch spikes, though now that it's all together it seems pretty stable.

    I like the "5150" reference! That's CRAZY!

Thank you. Perhaps its the old style fillament, or the fact that the mason jar really diffuses the light, but it is actually a very low and understated glow. To be honest, I am a little disappointed as the light doesn't illuminate the sign as I hoped it would. But again, it's umderstated and I would never go brighter. I would also be discerning as to what campgrounds we light it up in. The last campground each site had it's own lightpost already, probably 60-75w. And almost every campground we go to everyone leaves their hookups service light on, another 60 watt light. Again, why we chose only 40w, just a glow. But we are always cognizant of our neighbors.
