We enjoy an RV site near Bodega Bay CA so much we've been more times than I can recall, but it was the site of generator thefts months ago. I think the cops caught the thief, but for a while, one generator per night was stolen.
The ranger warned us on our last visit, and I left my generator outside overnight - yes, with a stout cable and lock, but isn't really perfect insurance.
At our other favorite location, we left our campsite all day, and did put valuables inside. The camp host at this location said her proxmity to the campers cut down on thefts. She knew this because small items were being taken from other campgrounds nearby without hosts. "Small items" like kitchen supplies, etc. The host's theory this was by homeless looking for stuff they needed for themselves.
It saddens me to have to look over my shoulder (so to speak) as I explore the area away from camper.
