Your "jump start" battery for $40 is a terrible purchase if you are using for only opening the slides..
If you are towing it on PUBLIC ROADS IT MUST HAVE A WORKING BREAK AWAY SYSTEM.. No battery on board = no break away system.
Not only that you mentioned that hooking trailer up to your vehicle blows fuses so I am assuming you tow it without marker/tail lights and not even using the trailer brakes?
Not to mention I don't know where you are buying GC batteries at, you can buy those at Sam's Club or Costco for about $80 per 6V battery or a total investment of $160 for one pair.
There is no excuse for towing your trailer on public roads without having all the proper lighting and braking system in working order..
There is a reason why some states like mine that INSIST on having a annual inspection on trailers.. It ensures folks are at least fixing the stupid simple things like brakes and lights..
i think/hope he meant trying to power the slide off the 7way is what blows the truck fuse, not just hooking up. I would assume (i know, dangerous to assume) that his lights work just fine off the 7way, and he tested his brakes via brake controller when plugged to 7way.
the important thing missing is EMERGENCY brakes. In the event of a break-away, the battery powers those, as obviously the 7way has broken-away, as others have mentioned. Not trying to attack the OP, just educate him/her so we're all safer.
