Can I tow with 2001 dodge ram pickup 2500 slt

Truck newbie here. I'm looking at a 2001 dodge ram pickup 2500 slt 8.0L V10 GAS Towing capacity: 13,800 lbs according to Google.

I need to pull a Toy hauler with bumper pull not 5th wheel. The UVW 9388 lbs, GVWR 13,387 lbs, and Hitch weight 2268 lbs if that matters.

I'm a nervous wreck because I had a really hard time finding this truck in my budget. I'm a single mom and fulltime RVer so all opinions are appreciated.

Will this pull my toy hauler ok? Please say yes haha

  • I believe you need some basic education in RVing and specifically TT towing. No issue checking your numbers but you don't know what the numbers are...hitch weight 2,268 for instance..."if that matters?" You and your kids safety is involved.
  • I'm thinking I'll be ok with those numbers. Don't know why nada was off.
    Thanks!

What make and model and year?

  • Pretty sure that the 2268 lbs is for a 5th wheel,no way is that for travel trailer.
  • Thank you for your reply. Is there a place on my trailer where i can see the hitch weight? I had to look up my trailer online to get that 2268 lbs
  • Something isn't quite right I believe.
No travel trailer has a 2200# tongue weight. If it does, you'll never find a Weight Distribution Hitch for it and you'll be over your truck weight carrying capacity even if you do.
    Can you verify?

I suspect it is closer to 1000# and if so, you should be fine.
