My '04 has one too and I still pull filter out to check it. The monitor has never gone more than half way into yellow zone. I just check it when I feel like it especially when getting ready for a long trip(4000 miles), but with no regular miles or months/years. Forget already how many I have put in in the 9 1/2 years and 152k we have owned it. They are cheap to replace on my truck.
