I believe it was a 5.7L during that time frame.
According to the 2001 Trailer Life guide, it appears it could tow up to 6,600 pounds (also as little as around 5,100). Obviously some variables there that need to be cleared up first in order to figure its actual towing capability.
And yes, if the van can tow this, you NEED a WD hitch.
