Can you fold up bunk ends with made beds?

Go with a TT

I've seen a lot of posts in RV forums indicating folks were trading up to a TT from a HTT usually due to:
Having to close up when leaving for sight seeing (security concerns)
Cold/wet Weather issues

We have a Jayco 23b. We cannot close the ends when with the bed made up as the mattresses' fold in half to store.
We have never closed up for security reasons,nor have we had any security or temperature or wet issues.
Why on earth would you say moving up to a TT? We sold our TT and moved up to a hybrid for a larger trailer for less truck. Moving UP in my eyes!

We like our Hybrid, they may not be for everyone,but there certainly is nothing wrong with one.

I will never understand why folks that don't own one will project an uniformed opinion as fact!

Thanks for the replies, I actually am looking at a Surveyor 191T or an R-Pod 179 (both made on the same assembly line). I've read through countless pages on why or why not you should own a hybrid or a TT and really it comes down to how I plan to use the RV that will influence my decision the most.

I was kind of hoping you could leave the bed made so that when you were tired and on the road it was one less step you had to do to go to sleep. Not really an issue if you leave the dinette made up though.

I'm not as concerned about security as I've always taken my valuables with me and there are usually other high dollar campers in the area that thieves would target first.

The bed issue isn't a deal breaker, but it was one I hadn't seen an answer to.

With our Jayco some overnites we don't even deploy the tents, but sleep on the dinette bed.

We've owned 2 hybrids over the past 13 years. The first we owned for 10 years. I can honestly say that many of the "concerns" in these and other forums generally don't have a lot of basis. I will say that hybrids are not for everyone. The biggest real issue for some folks is sleeping under canvas. If you are not used to it, or don't want to hear outside noise, then a hybrid is not for you.

We have never "made" beds. We like the KISS principle.The concept of making beds in a hybrid or pop-up seems overkill to us. We came from tents and pop-ups. For us it's simple, take a single unzipped sleeping and lay it flat with the inside up. That's your mattress pad and you can lay directly on it. Now throw the pillows on top with a comforter or two.

You must camp in some scary places. We've never felt the need to close up, even when camped at Circus Circus.

I leave sheets an blanket on mine but when its colder we use a sleeping bag on top and that I have to pull off. It makes it a little too thick to fold up.. Mine is a 2001 bantam b19 so the newer HTT's might be different..

you could leave the sheets on the mattress and maybe a thin blanket and still fold it. that's what we usually do.

or take the mattress off the bunk end and lay it over the dinette, made up.

otherwise, the mattress has to be folded.

and i agree with the others about not having to close the bunk ends when we leave for sightseeing. we have NEVER had to do that.
and we've owned ours for nearly 10 years.

plenty of non-hybrid RVs get broken into. look at all the posts from owners who have had their RV broken into at the storage yard.

if someone wants to get into any RV, hybrid or not, they're very easy to get into. Heck, most use the same dang key for the doors.

as far as cold/wet weather, we've camped in snow and torrential downpours and had no issues. snug as a bug in a rug!:B

but we use PUGs and Reflectix, so we stayed quite warm and dry.

I cannot imagine it working well, our bed is not fastened to the bunk and folds in half when closed up.
Hybrids are interesting beasts... people either seem to love them or hate them, and you will get a lot of weird, uninformed and even downright ignorant opinions on them from people who don't actually own them, mostly because old HTT's were badly designed, but modern ones are way different. I have heard people say that they are not safe (security and bears), tell that to the grizzlies that have ripped the doors off TT's, 5ers and Motor homes for a meal in Banff. People will tell you that you get too much moisture inside or that the bunk ends are too cold, I've been cold camping below freezing and never had it rain on me inside the bunk or been cold. They will tell you it is a pain to setup and tear down (especially wet), hmmm you must be in a real rush if 2-3 minutes is that big a deal. Or that the tent ends will leak, tear, fail and need to be replaced in 5 years, tell that to my co worker with 20 year old tent ends. What they don't tell you is that my 21' trailer has all the features of a TT and is 3400lbs, can be pulled by a V6, sleeps 7, and when opened up effectively has the square footage of a 31' trailer. Or that with the bunk windows zipped down you get excellent air circulation. Or that sleeping in a bunk end feels like tent camping but in a tent attached to a full featured trailer and no rocks poking in your back. Or that you can Wallydock, you can "turtle" with the bed ends up and still sleep on a jackknife sofa or dinette if in a pinch.
Ya HTT's are not for everyone and most people would not want to full time in one, but for recreational camping, their weight vs usable square footage and sleeping space make them a good alternative to a Pop up or small/medium Travel Trailer.

I leave blankets and sheets on mine pillows come off so everything closes and seals up ok. Love the tent feel had pop up before

We had a Palomino Stampede and had to fold the bunks when traveling. Never when we were away from the camper. The only reason we traded for a TT was for more room for my 3 growing boys. Htt do require a bit more set up but they are great little rvs. If you find the one you like, go for it! Also look into the PUGs and Reflectix.. they really do make a difference.
