- jerem0621Explorer IIThat's Crazy Ben! They didn't even bent the frame back before they added the brace.
- BenKExplorerBelow additional images taken off the net that has also been posted many times before...telling just about where the frame will break when overloaded
This guy uses his pickup as a tow truck and of course overloaded often
Most always at the stress raiser...texasjayco wrote:
Obviously you can!!
Sheared the frame at the front leaf spring mounts!!
The tongue extension on the trailer just made things worse!!

All to do with simple physics.
Check out where the tow line is attached...then how it's 'lifted' quite a distance over what appears to be a cement culvert in the bed of the truck.
Predictable...bending and possible breakage of the truck frame...all due to the angle of the tow cable and minimal pulling force.
Bingo.... And the same predictable outcome from the OP picture.- LessmoreExplorer II

Old picture and when first saw it the frame was ate up with rust from the years of salted roads
That's a 2011-2016 Ford so not that old of a truck. I believe that photo was taken in Alberta. To the truck's credit that Okanagan Ultimate Suites camper (made in BC) weighs over 4K lbs dry. - texasjaycoExplorer

This one is many years old.
I know it's old...just thought we could have some fun with it.Durb wrote:
Actually, the tongue extension on the trailer reduces the weight on the truck hitch.
Not if most of the weight of the trailer contents are in front of the axle!!

Before even opening his link, I will bet 1000 x 1 odds that it is about a failure on a RAM. Anyone want to take the bet? - southernskyExplorerOld picture and when first saw it the frame was ate up with rust from the years of salted roads
