Back in 97, it was too much but compared to today, for what I have, it was really chump change.
How much did you pay for your truck? What does it have in it so I may compare it to modern truck? I am willing to bet that a truck with the same amenities will cost roughly the same as one today +/- a few grand with inflation.

I'm amazed at what a new truck cost. When I bought this farm 35 years ago, it was less than a new pickup cost now.... and the farm makes money and appreciates instead of depreciates like a new truck does.
One word..... inflation. The average price of a pickup is $40k which is equal to $15k 35 years ago.

One of my good friend's just bought a new Ford F350 King Ranch diesel loaded. Sweet truck but when he told me the payment I almost fainted. I can do a lot of hunting trips for what he is paying for it and when he parked it next to my 97, I liked my 97 better. It has classic lines and the motor isn't stuffed under the firewall either. I can do all the work on my 97. The new ones you cannot.
I can work on my 2014 truck. Just because one person is ignorant to new stuff doesn't mean everyone is. I admire the fact that you like your old truck and I even like older trucks too, but constantly going out of your way to bash something about a new truck makes you seem a little jealous. Not saying you are, but it makes it seem that way. I fit is not price then it is emissions. If it is not emissions then it is common rail. If it is not common rail then it is VG turbo. If it is not VG turbo then it is engine placement. We get it, you don't like anything other then what you have and everything else is junk or cost too much money just like another member here.
