can't find the satellite, first time ever

I just hooked up my Dish 311 receiver, a replacement for the one I've used since 2004. I cannot find satellite 110 or 119. I have been doing this for years and helped other people get theirs going but I am stumped. I ran the test and it says it sees a dish pro twin but no satellite signal. I have about 15 volts dc at the coax connection to the lnb's.

Is the Dish pro twin compatible with the 311 receiver? I cannot get a call back from Dish network. Am I missing something? This is not that hard is what gets me.

with dishnetwork, there is more than one satellites at each location of 110 and 119 (but they work together so it appears as one), and they never go off line.
as to the original posters problem, I really can't add anything. you did the switch test so the receiver knows what switch you have. Some times I have had to put foil over one side of the LNB to find the correct sat on the correct LNB, but you will know that is the problem if you receive one but not the other.

plus I recommend Satellite AR on the android phone. it shows you exactly where "any visible space junk" or the space stations passes as you sit around the fire at night.

and yes the 311 is end of life. as OP said, they sent him a new receiver, which is probably a 211, not a 311.
  • 311 recievers are being phased out, dinosaurs. Dish will no longer let them out after 7-1-16, In our dish CATV system this year we have had several of our 25 311 recievers that would not start up. They were replaced at our expense with 211s.
311 software is no longer supported, perhaps yours is one that is a dino.

No I am at my home in Pueblo, Co. That's what is so frustrating, I've done this many times before. The only thing different this year is the new receiver they forced on me. I've tried many different elevations, and transponders, I get no indication that the thing works at all.

They forced that on me too but I didn't notice any change in settings. They told me it was free then tried to charge me for unit and shipping. I held out and they dropped all charges. Finding setting on the road I put compass app on smart phone and set it on the LMB. Seems more accurate than compass effected by any metal.
