Carbon monoxide detectors in a Pop-up?

Hi.
The Carbon Monoxide detector in my Pop-up has expire, and I need a replacement, I also never had a smoke detector in the Pop-up.

Reading reviews on the web for the different brands and combo models got me really confused, most are hit or miss when it come to reliability?

1. What model/brand will you recommend for a replacement?

2. I was thinking to buy a stand alone dual smoke detector Photoelectric + Ionization (such as First Alert SA320CN, and a stand alone Carbon monoxide detector like the Kidde C3010D (that is good for 10 years?)

3. Are the Smoke/Carbon monoxide detectors that made for residential good for Pop-ups?

What is your take on this?
Thank you.

    Bondebond,
I would agree with you that a smoke detector doesn't really sound useful in a pop up camper. It works in a house to let you know that a fire broke out somewhere else besides the room you are in. If you have propane, a CO detector would make sense. Do they make a sensor for leaking propane?

They sure do make an LP detector. Most newer RVs have them and I think they're required. I know that we had one in our 1999 Coleman PUP and every camper since then. They are usually mounted down near the floor since LP is heavier than air and will "pool" at lower levels if there's a leak.

  • That's totally up to you but I decided to just replace the CO detector when it expired and forego the smoke detector. I'm afraid the smoke detector would go off all too frequently at my camp site due to camp fires. That Kidde would be just fine.
  • The residential units are all I've used in campers, both PUPs and Travel Trailers. If the camper is going to sit for a while, I"ll try to remember to take the batteries out.
