Yes they are still on the road most with tens of thousands of dollars spent to get them there. Again, Ford did not spend North of $1 billion dollars on these engines in warranty repairs because they were a good engine. And I would bet that owners have spent much more than that keeping them going.
At the City I work at they have been an absolute nightmare with most of them now sent off to auction with less than 100k kms on them (60k miles) because they have cost an absolute fortune to keep them running. The worst one was the 2006 E-450 van with about 65k kms on it that cost $32k in mechanical repairs in 2 years INCLUDING the bulletproof Torqueshift transmission. So much for the E Series 6.0L engines being more reliable than the F Series. If we were a private company depending on these trucks to make money we would be bankrupt by now. And these are words spoken by our fleet manager as well.
