I don't mind the extra minute or two that it would take me to drive to the top of one road in the United States. More important to me is the truck that will consistently drive up that road without catastrophic mechanical failure. Given Ford's history and Ram's history, my wife and I chose to take the Ford diesel out of the equation. We looked at and liked the 6.2 gas, but the history of Ford diesels has us scared.
My good friend had a 6.0 that he invested thousands of dollars in, multiple times. He recently took it in for an issue and was told that it would cost thousands more to fix whatever his issue was. His wife refused to let him fix it, they bought a new 2016. Full disclosure, he LOVES it. My cousin has a 2011 diesel... he LOVES it. I'm sure the new diesels are great, but I still have very strong memories of the fiasco that was the 6.0 and 6.4 diesel and want to see how Ford handles any potential new issues with the 6.7 before I would consider it.
I know the Cummins will run all day long. It'll run a little slower to the top with less horsepower, but I have confidence that it will always make it to the top of the hill. I have no doubt that the Ford will get to the top of the hill faster... but I have legitimate concerns about how many times it will get to the top of the hill without a major issue that isn't covered under warranty (or denied under warranty...).
