You should weigh the tounge. Even with very little storage up front my trailer tounge weight was 1200 lbs (14% in my case) before I moved some stuff around. 14% was on the upper end of the recommended 10-15%, but 1200 lbs was right at the hitch limit.
There are several ways to get a tounge weight, but I opted to buy a Sherman Scale, which is a small hydraulic scale about the size of a softball.
