My 20' enclosed trailer is 3500 lbs empty. I went with the dual 5100 lb torsion axles so I still had a reasonable payload. Right now I can be as heavy as 8000 lbs with two buggies and 84 gallons of water.

I have little 8'x5.5' open trailer with a single 3500 lb axle and 15" wheels that weighs over 700 lbs empty. It does great hauling one toy or couple pallets of stone.
