Carlisle Radial Trail RH

I have E (80 pound) rated Carlisle's on my flatbed trailer. Have made many 10 hour fully loaded trips with no failures or problems. Liked them so much we just put a set of E rated on the horse trailer also.

I am very surprised nobody has shared "I ran them 20 years ago and wouldn't use them on a wheel barrow".

I know - the RHs haven't been around that long-but that doesn't stop some of this board........

On subject-I put a set on in Florida-ran the RHs all the up to Maine and back out to Utah and they are still on the trailer.

I agree. In years past their reputation was not exactly stellar, but these newer rh/hd's seen to be the real deal.

OK fellas, here's my quandary. I just bought a newused 2014 arctic fox 25r in Boise. I live in CA and we're picking it up Monday 6/6. It has the oem gym's on it. I've had bad luck with those 2 trailers previous, never again gym.
I just put new tires on the TV a couple of weeks ago at america's / discount tire here at home and ordered my new maxxis m8008 225-75-15 LRE to have installed on the new trailer the day we take delivery. Well, I'm told they probably won't have the Maxxis when I need them. I think they screwed up the order and they're most apologetic. They offered me the new Carlisle LRE trail HD with the "m" speed rating then when I get home they'll take them off and mount up the Maxxis for me if I want. That seems like a pretty fair remedy.

I've heard and read plenty a spitting mad story about Carlisles legendary failure rate. When I bought my last trailer newused it also had gym's on it so I replaced them with Carlisle radial trail 205-75-14 lrc. That was before I read online rv forums. Bought those carlisles in 9/2009, replaced them with same size and rated maxxis m8008 in 6/2013 as a precautionary measure before a summer trip to Utah and NM. No problems with the Carlisles in the 3 years 9 MO. I had them on. Fast forward to 4/2016 I was in AZ and found one of the Maxxis had crowned from an internal failure of some kind. So,
Carlisles lasted 3:9
Maxxis 2:10
Granted I put double the miles on the Maxxis.
Neither tire showed noteworthy tread wear.
I often found myself inadvertently driving 65mph+ before lightening up the foot, more so with the Maxxis.

I wasn't aware of these new HD Carlisles til the am tire Mgr offered them as an alternative and told me they had them in stock in Boise now. Upon reading this thread and a little more online, maybe the Carlisles are okay.
Their image has certainly taken a bad beating in online forums. Maybe they're trying to reinvent themselves?
What think? Let them swap the Carlisle HD 81mph rated for maxxis 65mph? Hmmm,

While I haven't looked on Discount's site for 16", they may not be available yet as it seems this tire just recently came out. Somewhat ahead of schedule per one of the posts above.

I have never heard of or come across the HD until just recently on Discount's site. It was after first reading about it on this thread. While it may be an exclusive to Discount, I don't believe it has been available very long for the manager to have that much experience selling the HD tires. Though maybe they have been available in certain parts of the U.S. And just now are available nationally???? Just a crazy thought...

I know you are only going by what he said. If you do get a set of the HD's, please keep us updated when you can.

He said that the HD is a tire specifically created and sold at Discount. Not sure, but I would assume that if it was rolling out everywhere, it would be on Carlisle's site. Anyhow, he said they mount a LOT of them (usually have 10-12 in stock) and he runs them on his TT. Hasn't had any problems with them in the past few years, and sees very few of them come back for repair.

Well after being on here for well over 10 years I never thought I would buy a Carlisle trailer tire. I guess we'll see how they do. They are definitely a lot stiffer as I could immediately tell there was less bounce, but I did go from a 8 ply to 10 ply. It makes me wish I'd done it the day I bought the camper now.
I will say that once the old tires were in the bed of the truck I was really surprised at how soft they were, especially the sidewalls. Obviously not pressurized but comparing the two un-mounted there was a huge difference.

My current tires might be good for another week or 5 years. They are the Towmax brand that are about 3 years old per date code. With almost 3,000 miles planned this summer I'd sure feel a lot better swapping out, plus going to a 10 ply.
Plus I'll be able to tow at 87 mph now!! ;)
