- TrackrigExplorer III did it for a number of years without a problem. I had a very heavy duty trailer hitch system welded under the rear of my truck so I had to do something else to carry the spare.
Bill - ticki2ExplorerI carry the spare up front on my 2002 Dmax and have not had any overheat issues . Mid year in 2004 the Dmax went from the LB7 to the LLY version . Some LLy's experienced overheat problems under load . If you have an LLY and have not had the problem then you are good to go . I would NOT put a tire cover on it .
- pjay9Explorersleepy does it on his GM truck 3500 dually. I did on a '79 FordCS and had no issues long ago. Just get a strong rack made to attach to frame of truck and have them add a rcvr for a small box out front.
- derwoodExplorerThanks all for the input, i have an LB7 motor. I'm gradually preparing the camper and truck for a trip to South America in 2017.
- derwoodExplorerTicki2 what hitch/tire holder combination are you using?

Curt makes a nice one that is available from etrailer for ~$90. I own their front hitch and I wouldn't think twice about picking one of these up if the need ever came up. - ticki2ExplorerMy front hitch is homemade to work with a snowplow mount so it won't be of much help to you . Several hitch manufacturers make front hitches and tire carriers . I think it is also covered in TC university at the beginning of this forum .
- NautiqueFamilyExplorerI was actually wondering about mount height. The ones that I have seen vary as to height and mounting angle.
- GeewizardExplorerDraw-Tite front hitch on mine with the Draw-Tite spare tire carrier. No cooling issues ever.
