I treat my electric assist bike like a regular bike. It is secured on the rear bike carrier with a travel cover over it. Battery and accessories are stored inside.
Most people cannot distinguish the value of bicycles, especially under cover.
An electric bike without the battery is only worth a street bike to a thief. They are not going to go out and buy a $300 battery.
If you are still concerned, then get the alarm cable used on motorcycles.
