Carrying/ storing an electric bike

I have an electric bike - converted it from an old mountain bike by adding a kit from China. Total weight with battery is about 50 pounds, the battery is just less than 10 pounds - so about 40 pounds on the bike rack.
I have a front mounted 2 inch receiver and use a regular 3-bike rack, usually carrying two bikes (including the electric) without issue.
The only concerns are bugs and road splash grit. So far I have NOT covered it for fear of affecting engine cooling.
But it works pretty good.
