CAT scale result and a question

Had my rig weighed at a Pilot/Flying J the other day. These were the results:

Steer 4,880 LB
Drive 5,220 LB

Trailer 6,800 LB

Gross 16,900 LB

I didn't have time to unhitch the trailer and just weigh the truck HOWEVER I have weighed the tongue before using the bathroom scale method and came up with 950 lb.

Based on this, can I assume that the trailer weighs 7,750 lbs? The certified weight of the trailer by the factory 'as-built' is 6,240 lb. Not sure how to come up with the total weight of the trailer loaded up.

Go back and weigh without the trailer.

Perhaps another time. Would need to load the truck up as I was with dogs, kids, wife, etc, etc.

This weigh was just for my curiosity and thought I could come up with a ballpark trailer weight based on the trailer weight and tongue weight that I had.
  • You need two passes to determine TW

    Truck alone
Truck with trailer tongue on ball

A third pass will help determine how well the WDH is adjusted - truck with trailer with WDH.
  • Then your question can't be answered. It's impossible to know without knowing the TV weight alone.
  • It was. Equal-i-zer brand 12,000/1,200 lb bars.

I also had a full tank of fresh water (50 gallons) at 400lb.
  • Depends, were the WDH bars hooked up? If so, some of that 950 lbs. tongue weight is on the trailer tires and some is on the TV tires.
