I have a 2006 GMC 2500HD short bed 4x4 D-Max w/Allison which is very similar to your truck. Listed capacities, on the door, are:
GVWR 9200#
FGAWR 4670#
RGAWR 6084#
Stock tires: LT245/75R16E with max load of 3042 @ 80psi
It appears to me that you are overloaded on your trucks RGAWR and GVWR
As most truck campers are but I would have never guessed bye that much. The truck does handle very well though with the mods, but i'll be looking to trim some weight where I can.
Some quick math will tell you that the RGAWR is *EXACTLY* the sum of the ratings of the two rear tires!
"Conventional wisdom" in the TC world is that the tires are the limiting factor on SRW (single rear wheel) pickup trucks, and upgrading the tires as you have will let you carry more weight "legally/safely" (depending on who you ask and what branch of the TC police they belong to).
You've got a long row to hoe to shed ~1000lbs, and even if you do you'll still be exceeding the truck's GVWR by hundreds of pounds. Odds are you probably won't be able to eliminate more than a couple hundred pounds, if that, anyway.
Do what you can and go with the upgraded tires. Your only choice to be truly "safe/legal" with that kind of weight is to trade trucks on a dually, and I doubt you're intersted in that.
Disclaimer: "Legal" is used sarcastically, because there are no legal ramifications to exceeding any of the truck's factory ratings in an RV situation, at least in the USA. "Safe" is also used sarcastically because the truck is not going to explode in a fireball of death the second you go 1lb over the ratings.
