It usually will tell little. I see they have made an unlimited pkg available. Likely because of the lack of sales.
A carfax has slightly more value that you can buy an unlimited subscription. Back when I was in the business it was expensive.
I agree with you; a very high percentage of the time the Carfax may offer little-to-no value, but in this case, it kept my FIL from buying a pear when he thought he was getting an apple.
The kicker is, IF the odo hadn't been tampered with, and IF it hadn't been in an accident, and IF the $8900 was highly negotiable there may have been something to discuss.
Bottom line, the truck has a shady history and that's more than enough reason to pass on it.
