ceiling repair frp vs luan board

Hi-
I have a 96 19' Prowler. The roof leaked over the last few years. I have that shored up pretty well. I resealed the skylight in the shower- replaced the ceiling 2x2 supports that needed it and finished with a panel of RFP. I like it.
But, now I have a bigger ceiling section (almost 4x8) to do in the front of the trailer. It is all re-braced and solid. Ready to cover- But now, I am not sure if RFP is the best choice. Here is my question.
Although the water resistance of RFP is a plus, if I do get some water in from roof again, is it a problem that it will just be sitting on fiberglass panel??

I'm sure the answer lies in the soundness of the roof- it will be hard to keep it waterproof year after year...

any input about use of FRP vs. Luan for ceiling welcome !!

thanks-

  • Well, you've uncovered one of the insidious aspects of RV's, it seems.

Water intrusion, even if dealt with using waterproof materials, may flow into areas which are not waterproof (like walls and floors) if it continues. There is a solution to your roof issues so if you'd care to post what type of roof you have and it's state, maybe some ides can be shared.
