Oh the thought of Jeep being made by GM makes my skin crawl.
Gee I remember when Jeep used the 90 degree Buick V6....one of the finest engines ever made.
I remember when Jeep was built by AMC... And then Chrysler took over.
I seriously doubt GM will partner, purchase, merge, in any shape or fiscal form with Fiat or the Chrysler Corp. division.
I believe Marchionne already posed the question to GM, Ford, Apple and perhaps Microsoft with no takers.
I'm older than dirt :Band I recall the days when Jeep was Willys Jeep.
I wonder if Fiat wants to dump Chrysler...like Mercedes did ? If they do, I'm not sure what the long term future of Chrysler will be. I haven't read all the other posts, perhaps this has been previously discussed.
I hope whatever happens Chrysler in one form or the other, continues to survive.
My son bought a new 2014 Jeep Patriot, with the off road package last year and in my limited experience with this SUV...it's a very good, reliable, durable, capable vehicle. Chrysler has some excellent product.
Possibly that is what will happen. FCA, with exception of Ferrari and the IVECO/ CNH is Jeep, the others do not exist. Fiat is tiny as a car brand, the U.S. Chrysler brands are as recognisable as Moskovitch in the U.S.
The timing of this act seams questionable (but not surprising) just after Fiat purchased the last stake of Chrysler from the retiree medical trusts union that owned the last 41% of Chrysler back in January '15.
